SUMMARY

Under periodic supervision, the Library Technician provides a variety of public service functions, including assisting patrons, managing materials, and supporting library programs. This role requires customer service skills, technology proficiency, and the ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently. Employees receive on-the-job training and perform related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS

Basic Qualification(s)

High school diploma OR equivalent.

Preferred Qualification(s)

Paid customer service experience involving public interaction.
Experience planning or presenting programs (e.g., using books, crafts, or activities).
Paid library experience.

Highly Desirable Qualification(s)

Completion of college coursework.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Public Services: Assist patrons with material selection, library resources, and technology; perform circulation tasks; plan and present programs; conduct outreach activities and promote library services.
Collection & Finances: Support collection development by suggesting materials and weeding outdated items; handle fines and payments, preparing financial reports.
Facility & Operations: Open and/or close the building in the absence of management; maintain cleanliness and organization of the facility.
Reports & Records: Assist with preparing reports and maintaining accurate records.
Professional Development: Attend meetings, training sessions, and participate in ongoing learning.
Travel: Requires occasional travel to other locations for work, meetings, and training.
Other: Performs other duties as required.

Ability to follow instructions and assist patrons with digital resources.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, sit, twist, use hands to finger, grasp, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, talk and hear. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, crouch, squat, kneel, and crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or carry up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds. Employee must frequently push and/or pull loaded book carts weighing up to 75 pounds.

PRESENT SCHEDULE [subject to change]:

Monday: 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Tuesday - Thursday: 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Friday: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

May be asked to work a Sunday shift as needed.

SALARY: $17.50/hour + some benefits

A criminal background check and a drug screening are part of the pre-hire process. The State of Louisiana Revised Statute 15:587.1.1 requires fingerprinting by local law enforcement and background checks by the Louisiana Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information and will be conducted on a yearly basis. A mandatory full day orientation is part of the new hire process; these orientations are on Tuesdays from 8:30am to 5:00pm.
