Job Description:
Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a visionary and dynamic Associate Executive Director of Clinical Research to lead and expand its clinical research enterprise. This senior leadership role will drive the strategic vision, execution, and operational oversight of clinical trials and human studies. The successful candidate will be an accomplished scientific leader with deep expertise in clinical research and a proven track record of fostering innovative, high-impact programs in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. This position carries a faculty rank of Professor with the option for tenure/tenure track, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a forward-thinking clinical research strategy aligned with Pennington Biomedical's mission to advance scientific discovery and improve public health.
- Program Oversight: Oversee the design, implementation, and management of a diverse clinical research portfolio, including investigator-initiated studies, industry-sponsored trials, and large-scale multi-site collaborations. Oversee the Clinical Research Oversight Committee, Medical Staff Oversight Committee, and other support services.
- Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, ICH-GCP guidelines, and other global regulatory standards, maintaining the highest level of integrity, data quality, and patient safety.
- Operational Excellence: Drive operational efficiency through the development and optimization of clinical research infrastructure, including clinical trial management systems (CTMS), data integrity processes, and participant recruitment strategies.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Foster cross-departmental and external partnerships with academic institutions, industry sponsors, governmental agencies, and community organizations to drive collaborative research initiatives.
- Talent Development: Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing clinical research team, promoting a culture of innovation, scientific rigor, and operational excellence.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key liaison to institutional leadership, regulatory agencies, external collaborators, and funding bodies to advance strategic goals and ensure alignment with emerging research priorities.
- Grant & Funding Acquisition: Spearhead efforts to secure extramural funding from federal agencies (e.g., NIH, DOD) and industry partnerships.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree required (MD, PhD) in a relevant scientific or clinical discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience in clinical research, including a track record of managing complex clinical trials and large-scale human studies.
- Recognized expertise in metabolic disease research (e.g., obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular health, nutrition science) or related fields, with a distinguished record of peer-reviewed publications and scientific contributions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical trial regulations, ethical considerations in human research.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic initiatives that drive scientific innovation and organizational growth.
- Proven success in optimizing clinical trial operations, including budgeting, resource allocation, and regulatory compliance.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders across academic, industry, and governmental sectors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading multi-site clinical trials or large-scale consortia.
- Established networks within the clinical research community and industry stakeholders.
- Familiarity with cutting-edge methodologies, including precision medicine, digital health, and real-world evidence generation.
