Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in the operation, administration, or maintenance of parks, outdoor recreation, or historic sites; or in parks or conservation work; OR
Three years of experience in law enforcement, interpretive services, mobile equipment operation, building construction or maintenance.
Experience Substitution:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Level Of Work:
Supervisor.
Supervision Received:
General from a higher-level Park Manager. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

Direct over personnel assigned to a state park or historic site. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism - Office of State Parks. Other locations may be approved by SCS.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Park Managers by the absence of independent responsibility over operations, interpretation, maintenance, and law enforcement activities at a state park or historic site.
Examples of Work
The purpose of this position is to serve as the primary assistant to the Park Manager, in the management and administration of the site's operations, fiscal management, personnel, maintenance, customer service, interpretive, and facility management activities.
25% Administrative Responsibility
- Assumes primary administrative responsibility in the absence of the Park Manager.
- Facilitates day-to-day site operation.
- Prepares correspondence.
- Answers telephone inquiries.
- Attends meetings on behalf of the site.
- Assists in preparation of weekly fiscal/revenue and visitation reports.
- Prepares and performs weekly bank deposits, daily shift reconciliation, weekly and monthly departmental reports.
- Compiles LaCarte purchase card reports.
- Prepares supplemental receiving reports, monthly contracts, and requests for purchase and purchasing documents.
- Orders, purchases, maintain and distribute park supplies.
- Prepares purchase requests in coordination with maintenance, interpretive, law enforcement and clerical, staffs for purchase of required items.
- Generates payment documents for items purchased.
25% Personnel Management
- Assists in planning, organizing, directing and controlling of work activities of all personnel at site to include administrative, maintenance, law enforcement, and interpretive, housekeeping and seasonal employees.
- Assists in interviews and selection of new employees.
- Assists in training coordination for new employees.
- Reviews and submits all payroll and personnel documentation to the administrative office.
- Conducts annual review of work performance of staff.
- Directs review of subordinate staff performance.
20% Site Maintenance
- Assist in maintenance of the site.
- Assist in directing the staff and subordinate staff in the cleaning of facilities and grounds may include, but are not limited to, overnight lodging, campgrounds, group camps, bathhouses, public restrooms, entrance station, park office, boat launch, boathouse, interpretive facilities, gardens, historic facilities, swimming facilities, splash parks and fish cleaning station.
- Assists the Park Manager in development of maintenance/repair project planning.
- Conducts site inspections to ensure compliance with agency standards.
15% Guest Services
- Assists park guests in such a way that will enhance their overall visitation experience.
- Assists individuals and groups in planning of outings at state park facilities.
- Provides tourism information.
- Gives local directions to site visitors.
- Disseminates information at the request of site visitors.
- Assists site manager with community outreach activities.
- Directs and/or performs fee collection tasks.
- Assists in the administration of the interpretive programming of the site.
- Assists in the coordination of scheduling of interpretive talks, tours, and outreach programs, special events, re-enactment and demonstrations on site or off site for individuals or groups.
10% Property Protection and Development
- Assist in the maintenance of historic collections, exhibits, buildings, artifact collections, photographs, museum specimens, files, archaeological excavations and library collections.
- Assists in the development and researches plans for conservation and preservation of site's cultural resources.
- Enforces state and parish laws.
- Enforces Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism rules and regulations.
- Provides oversight of site law enforcement.
- Assists the Park Manager with control of property.
- Assists the Park Manager with site equipment inventory.
- Conducts site inspections to ensure compliance with agency standards.
- Ensures compliance with safety programs.
- Enforces Office of Risk Management requirements.
- Completes other certifications as required by the Office of State Parks.
5% Government Liaison
- Works with governmental agencies to meet guidelines for staff.
- Coordinates with agencies to include, but not limited to, Office of Risk Management, Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Archaeology, Loss Prevention, Louisiana Property Assistance, State Fire Marshall's office, Department of Public Works, Sheriff’s Department, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and Department of Health and Hospitals.
