DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
- The nurse practitioner (NP) works in collaboration with the physician within the scope of practice guidelines agreed upon by the collaborating parties. Responsible for providing health care to patients and families, focusing on health maintenance, disease prevention, patient education and counseling.
SUPERVISION: Reports directly to Practice Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Provides a positive and professional representation of the organization.
- Promotes a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation and safety.
- Maintains standards for a clean and quiet patient environment to maintain a positive patient care experience.
- Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in the scope of the job role or practice.
- Maintains communication between medical staff, administrative staff, and/or patient/families.
- Follows acute and chronic standard of care.
- Abides by all federal, state, and regulatory guidelines.
- Accurately evaluates new patients, follow-up patients, and/or postoperative patients in person or via phone and provides appropriate advice, intervention or referral.
- Evaluate and clarify clinical conditions, formulate and implement a treatment or therapeutic plan for hospitalized patients, dictate discharge summaries, histories and physicals, as needed for specialty.
- Order, prescribe, dispense, and administer medication, orthotics, braces and other devices as may be allowed by state legislation.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at a department and campus/system level.
- Makes responsible decisions within the scope of practice.
- Other office work as needed.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Must have a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing (DNP)
- Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in State of Louisiana
- Current BSLS/ACLS certifications
- Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of Louisiana as outlined by the State Board Nursing
- Experience in evaluating and treating patients in a Physician office setting.
- Computer literacy
- Previous experience working in certain specialty areas may be desirable.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work requires a variety of physical activities, including moving about within and outside of all hospital properties for long periods of time.
- Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergent situations.
- May be required to assist in controlling disorderly conduct or combative patients.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
