Description
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program Director is a full-time, 12-month leadership position. The essential role of the program director is to direct the organizational administration of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program by providing leadership and oversight for all aspects of the program including governance, budgetary oversight, didactic and clinical curriculum composition, recruitment and retention of students, and evaluation at the programmatic level.
Examples of Duties
- Provide leadership and direction for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program ensuring compliance with NONPF and CCNE accreditation standards.
- Prepare internal and external regulatory and accreditation reports in collaboration with the Dean of the College of Nursing and Health and Director of the School of Nursing.
- Collaborate with the Director of the School of Nursing to assure faculty workloads are in accordance with Loyola faculty workload policy and to be a good steward of resources.
- Function as supervisor for all Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program faculty, clinical coordinators, and adjunct faculty teaching in the specialty, as appropriate.
- Oversee development and refinement of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program curriculum materials within regulatory and professional guidelines.
- Lead the securing of affiliation agreements/contracts for all clinical sites.
- Coordinate development and implementation of policies related to admission, progression, sequencing, and remediation of classroom and clinical practice components of the program.
- Oversee recruitment, selection and enrollment of students.
- Monitor student progression and direct formative and summative evaluation procedures.
- Teach at the graduate level in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program courses and across other graduate level nursing courses as needed based on qualifications and experience.
- Mentor/serve as advisor of students (not necessarily only Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner students) completing the DNP Project as necessitated by academic/clinical expertise.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Maintain competency within Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse specialty area, state RN and APRN licensure, and national certification.
- Expectations for scholarship in the form of presentations and publication.
- Service to the community in the form of representing the profession, SON, CNH through outreach opportunities identified by the Dean of the College of Nursing and Health, and Director of the School of Nursing.
- Service to School, College, and University is expected in the form of committees, accreditation activities, etc.
Typical Qualifications
Successful candidates will have: a Doctorate in nursing, or a related field (e.g., PhD, DNP, EdD, DrPH, DM, or other) and a Master's degree in PMH, active program of scholarship, active clinical practice as a PMHNP, current national certification as a PMHNP and eligibility for advanced practice licensure and as a registered nurse in Louisiana, experience with academic teaching in PMH or advanced practice nursing, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, and creating an inclusive work and learning environment.
Preferred experience and qualities include: ability to think creatively and strategically, strong communication and interpersonal skills, experience in mentorship, experience in academic/clinical partnerships, and participation in leadership roles in midwifery, nursing, or related professional fields locally, regionally, and nationally.
