About the opportunity
SWCA is looking for a Natural Resources Project Manager to join our Baton Rouge, LA office. The candidate chosen to fill this position will have a broad range of skills in supporting and managing our assessment, permitting and compliance efforts in the transmission, power generation, and oil and gas markets. The position requires proven experience with all phases of project management from inception to completion. This will include budget management, development including initial constraints analysis, permitting, preconstruction planning, construction, and post-construction operations and maintenance. Not only will you manage projects independently, but you will also support and be mentored by our senior project managers on large complex projects throughout all phases of a project's life-cycle. There might be opportunities to work within our other business lines, such as land development or ecological restoration, as the need arises.
This is a full time, regular status position reporting to our Baton Rouge, LA office with flexibility of hybrid work environment.
We are considering candidates based on skills and years of relevant experience listed below:
- Associate Project Manager - A minimum of 5 years relevant experience, including PM experience and leading/supervising others
- Project Manager - A minimum of 7 years relevant experience, including PM experience leading/supervising others

What you will accomplish
- Preparation of key aspects of environmental planning documents, including pre-application activities and project planning; developing project descriptions and supporting documentation; preparing technical reports; public involvement and stakeholder outreach.
- Serve as a project manager or task lead on projects of varying size and complexity.
- Work closely with SWCA senior project managers on complex energy development or FERC regulated projects.
- Prepare Regulatory Permit Applications to agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Florida Department of Environmental Protection
- Manage and lead project teams working various energy development projects.
- Serve as the regulatory/permit compliance liaison between agencies and clients.
- Communicate effectively and pro-actively with diverse project stakeholders, including regulatory agents, field crews, trade workers, and third parties regarding project status, schedules, and compliance issues.
- Build new relationships and supporting the development of client capture plans.
- Use of strong organizational and communication skills in writing, verbally, and graphically.
- Take responsibility for team safety, develop safety plans (when applicable), and anticipate potential safety hazards.
Experience and qualifications for success
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in an environmental related field or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 5+ years of permitting and natural resource related experience.
- A minimum of 3+ years of PM Management experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of products (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word).
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting laws and processes.
- Experience of working with scientists, planners, engineers, contractors, and agency specialists.
- Experience in writing technical reports related to the Endangered Species Act and other biological requirements.
- Ability to work as member of a team and independently to make decisions and complete tasks in the most effective manner.
- Willingness to learn and grow into increased project-management and supervisorial responsibilities.
Additional Information:
- Ability to travel up to 25% - 35% regionally.

An employee in this Baton Rouge, LA-based position can expect an annual salary of $63,440k-$81,120k for the Associate PM role and $70,200k-$91k for the PM role Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
