Position Title: Lead Biomedical Laboratory Technician

Responsibilities:
The New Iberia Research Center (NIRC) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Biomedical Laboratory Technician to join our team. This NIH grant-funded position, under the supervision of Dr. Francois Villinger, Principal Investigator (P.I.), plays a crucial role in advancing our mission to provide resources and support for basic and applied biomedical research aimed at solving human health and societal problems. NIRC is an AAALAC International-accredited facility housing approximately 12,000 nonhuman primates, including Great Apes, Old World, and New World species. As a Center of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, we are committed to supporting the biomedical community and facilitating groundbreaking research.
Major Responsibilities:
- Support programs focused on active immunization of nonhuman primates to prevent mucosal virus acquisition.
- Conduct whole body to single cell evaluations of viral reservoirs in simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) infection studies.
- Perform assays to measure immunological and virological parameters.
- Operate imaging equipment, including a PET/CT scanner, to collect and analyze data.
- Assist in tissue collection and preparation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
- Order laboratory supplies and manage inventory to support ongoing research activities.
- Maintain and update databases for sample storage, including those from experimental animals and laboratory-generated reagents.
- Collaborate with research team members to design and execute experiments.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices in laboratory settings.
- Assist in the training and supervision of junior laboratory staff and students.
- Contribute to the preparation of research reports, publications, and grant proposals.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- A Master of Science degree
-OR a Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of laboratory experience in biology, immunology, molecular biology, microbiology, or a related field will substitute for the graduate degree requirement
Preferred Qualifications:
-Previous experience in biomedical research with significant bench work experience, including excellent tissue culture skills, molecular assay and the operation of PET/CT equipment under biosafety level 2+ conditions and work with nonhuman primate models will be a plus.
