General Summary of Duties
The Physician will provide medical oversight and direct clinical care within a behavioral health setting, ensuring that patient care meets or exceeds regulatory, and quality standards set forth by HRSA, Louisiana Health Standards, and the Joint Commission. This role emphasizes excellence in clinical treatment, risk management, quality assurance, and program compliance, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for all clients. The Psychiatrist must be assured that all regulatory requirements are being satisfied: namely but not limited to, Joint Commission, HRSA Core Requirements, and National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Review patients' medical history and collect additional information from family members and psychologists as needed.
- Evaluate patients' emotional, behavioral and mental state through discussion, observation and analysis.
- Identify mental disorders and determine the best treatments.
- Direct medical treatment plans for each patient, ensuring all treatments are evidence-based and meet established medical practice standards.
- Prescribe and oversee all prescriptions and non-prescription medication management protocols on-site.
- Analyze medical tests and track patients' progress.
- Coordinate with healthcare professionals when hospitalization is required.
- Advise patients on how to cope with mental diseases and emotional breakdowns.
- Support patients' loved ones and inform them about the patient's condition.
- Maintains historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events and writing summaries.
- Research medical issues and new medical treatments to remain up to date on mental healthcare.
- Direct the medical treatment plan for each patient, ensuring all treatments are evidence- based and meet established medical practice standards.
- Serves as a member of the care team allowing and offering consultation as needed.
- Identify potential health hazards, escalating these to the Care Team and Clinical Leadership for resolution.
- Participate in the development of new programs and modification of existing services to meet the evolving needs of patients.
- Collaborate with each patient's primary care physician and/or psychiatrist to maintain continuity and comprehensiveness of care.
- Provides training and guidance to staff on medication handling and administration to ensure safe, effective practices.
- Ensure all necessary services are provided to meet the clinical needs of patients.
- Follow policies and patient treatment plans, ensuring they adhere to current clinical practice standards.
- Assures quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standards, rules, Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Organizations requirements, and legal regulations; participating in utilization reviews; and remaining available for emergency consultations.
- Complete all training as requested for Federal Torts Claims Act (FTCA) adherence.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a Licensed MD with at least 5 years of experience as a psychiatrist or Behavioral Health Clinician. Demonstrates ability to act independently; Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills; Demonstrates a willingness to lead change; Demonstrates good communication skills in a diverse patient population; Demonstrates leadership ability, as well as ability to assess, problem solve and effectively make decisions; Demonstrates flexibility and manageability of multiple demands. Maintain board certification or eligibility, while working towards certification.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Completion of a psychiatric residency or a family medicine, psychiatry residency in an ACGME approved residency program. Current BC/BE in Psychiatry (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in psychiatry). Valid state medical license as MD or DO. Valid DEA certificate. Minimum 5 years' experience working full-time as a psychiatrist in child/adult psychiatry and/or behavioral health. Valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Card (CPR); Demonstrated comfort, knowledge and understanding of information technology; A minimum of five (5) years' experience in community health in any clinical setting. Must be grounded in working with the pediatric, adolescent, and adults.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to speak multiple languages a plus; Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents; Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members within the business community; Excellent oratory and writing skills; Ability to effectively present information to top management, stakeholders, public groups and/or the Board of Directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical solutions.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
