Responsibilities:
The New Iberia Research Center (NIRC) is a premier $75 million biomedical research facility dedicated to advancing human health and addressing societal challenges through the use of non-human primates in research. As a vital resource for the biomedical community, NIRC provides state-of-the-art support for investigators conducting both basic and applied research. The Center is an integral part of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, guided by an Executive Team composed of the Director, Associate Director, Quality Assurance Auditor, and Chair of Veterinary Medicine.
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Medical Technologist) will be responsible for the processing, analysis, and reporting of diagnostic samples in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines in a contract laboratory setting. This position requires expertise in multiple diagnostic disciplines, including hematology, coagulation, chemistry, microbiology, flow cytometry, parasitology, and urinalysis. The role also involves the calibration, preventative maintenance, and quality control of laboratory equipment, as well as ensuring compliance with regulations for the shipment of diagnostic samples.
Key Responsibilities:
-Perform diagnostic testing in hematology, coagulation, chemistry, microbiology, flow cytometry, parasitology, and urinalysis.
-Process, analyze, and report laboratory test results in accordance with established SOPs and regulatory requirements.
-Conduct quality control procedures, including calibration and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment.
-Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
-Maintain accurate records of laboratory procedures, test results, and quality control activities.
-Prepare and ship diagnostic samples following applicable transportation and biosafety regulations.
-Collaborate with research and veterinary teams to support study objectives and ensure timely processing of samples.
-Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to laboratory instruments and assays.
-Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
-Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or related fields
-Louisiana State licensure (or eligibility) as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist
Preferred Qualifications:
-A.S.C.P. certified or equivalent
-Previous experience as a generalist in a biomedical research or clinical laboratory
Skills, Abilities, Etc.:
-Strong computer skills are a must, as are skills in managing, planning, and organizing multiple activities.
-Basic knowledge and understanding of regulations governing operation of a research laboratory or hospital laboratory
