Pinnacle Polymers, LLC, a privately-owned polypropylene manufacturing facility, has an opening for an Environmental Engineer.
The Environmental Engineer is responsible for supporting the sustainability efforts and environmental programs for our polypropylene manufacturing facility. This position collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to maintain Pinnacle's compliance with environmental regulations and will provide support to the SHE & Sustainability Manager on establishing plant standards and developing approaches for environmental controls.
Main responsibilities and key tasks
- Review past and current environmental events to ensure all necessary data and information has been collected.
- Interpret, organize, file, and maintain environmental related documentation.
- Create regulatory reports for differing governing agencies for periodic reporting events.
- Support environmental compliance efforts by ensuring effective remediation processes and applying best management practices.
- Continual support on environmental management system for tracking environmental performance, ensuring compliance with regulations, and reporting progress.
- Gather various field samples and process data, ensuring that all data is collected, maintained, and reported as required by permits and applicable laws.
- Work with various databases and software that require data entry.
- Perform regulatory tasks associated with the site permits; ensuring compliance with all environmental and permitting strategies.
- Assist with internal routine site inspections and regulatory inspections performed by environmental agency.
- Assist with identifying and supporting site environmental improvement projects.
- Educate contractors, visitors and site personnel on environmental compliance, waste reduction, recycling and energy use.
- Support with internal communication related to the progress and accomplishments of the organization's environmental initiatives.
- Support other Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives as needed.
Competencies and skills
- Effective oral and communication skills.
- Possess and demonstrate fundamental knowledge regarding Annual Emissions Inventory Reporting, TRI, Tier II, SPCC, SWP3, and discharge monitoring reporting experience.
- Possess basic knowledge on air permitting and water permitting regulations and reporting.
- Ability to perform calculations regarding air, waste, and water.
- Ability to interpret data and apply interpreted data to mitigation efforts needed or regulatory reporting.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of sustainability principles and effectively apply them to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Working knowledge and familiarity with US federal and Louisiana environmental rules and regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical/problem solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Must be willing and able to safely, effectively and efficiently carry out written and verbal job-related instructions, and adhere to all company policies and procedures
- Organizational and prioritization skills, ability to handle multiple tasks while making decisions
- Ability to successfully work in a group environment as well as independently
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Tasks require long periods of standing and sitting
- Regularly required to use hands to touch, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms
- Requires regular use of standard office equipment (computers, phones, and scanner/copier)
- This role is regularly required to talk, see and hear
- Normal Production Plant environment with controlled climate as well as outside elements.
- Moderate noises (business office with computer and printers, light traffic or manufacturing facility with heavy machinery)
- Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and pass any medical examination associated with the use of PPE.
- Must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the safety of his or her own self, or the safety of others.
Requirements
- Bachelor's in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability or related field of study.
- 1-3 years of work experience in an environmental field in a manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to climb ladders/stairs.
- Able to work at heights above 100 feet.
- Ability to work in the U.S. and successful completion of a pre-employment background check and screening.
