Main Duties and Responsibilities
A Civil/Structural Engineer Department Head is needed for a rapidly expanding engineering company in the Metairie, LA branch office. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join the Civil/Structural department and lead an outstanding team who is eager to collaborate with others and grow their technical and professional skills with all the opportunities Alliance Engineering has to offer.
As a Civil/Structural Engineer Department Head, the candidate shall be able to lead, organize and track the departments policy and procedures along with maintaining a staffing plan. Candidate must also be able to lead a design team in the development of drawing packages, calculations, specifications, and reports for the completion of assigned projects. The candidate must exhibit an excellent understanding of engineering principles, theories, typical applications, codes, standards, published recommendations, and concepts associated with the civil, structural, and architectural disciplines as required to complete project or system designs. With the right experience, the Engineer may operate as the Engineer of Record for their assigned project(s) and lead and delegate assignments to the engineering and design support staff assigned to the project. This candidate must have proven ability to schedule and forecast the assigned team over the duration of the project(s) and manage the engineering team within the project schedule and budget constraints as defined by the executed contract. This candidate shall be responsible for all civil, structural, and architectural project deliverables and associated engineering analysis and calculations, which shall include:
- Perform engineering analyses and design while providing direct supervision to team members
- Provide engineering support for multi-discipline design projects from work scope development until the completion of construction
- Evaluate and apply applicable building code requirements and design code requirements (e.g. IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC)
- Travel to project site and meetings as needed
- Use computer software as a tool for solving structural engineering problems including building 3D analytical structural models
- Develop technical specifications, plans, and details
- Assist with productions of drawing and engineering scope of work (SOW) packages
Experience
Typical experience level for this position is 10+ years of relevant Civil / Structural Engineering work.
P.E. license is required.
Education
This position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited University.
Preferred Qualifications
The following training and/or experience is typical for this position:
- Experience with structural analysis software (STAAD.Pro) including operating and interpreting results
- Foundation Design and Analysis software (STAAD Foundation)
- Civil and Structural Calculations (Excel, Tedds, Mathcad, etc.)
- Familiarity with ACI, AISC, ASCE, IBC, OSHA, PIP and other industry standards
- Demonstrated experience of structural steel design and reinforced concrete design
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience with the Autodesk Suite of CAD software packages such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, etc.
- Knowledge and experience with computer productivity software such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)

- Ability to lead our dynamic CSA department by providing and tracking training, giving guidance, and maintaining personnel files
- Ability to conduct performance evaluations, set objectives, and ensure adherence to departmental goals.
- Must work well in a team environment to complete tasks associated with a common goal or project while fostering a collaborative work environment for team members
- Ability to ensure the CSA department completes projects within budget and in a timely manner while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Ability to communicate openly and honestly with colleagues and project team members to ensure successful execution and completion of tasks.
- Ability to develop plans and maintain a schedule related to assigned work or tasks while allocating resources effectively.
- Ability to travel to project sites to collect field data or perform field inspections, which may involve being out of town for multiple days at a time.
- Ability to interface with clients and other supporting consultants to ensure the needs of our clients and our business are being met.
- Ability to organize and schedule teams for executing site visits to acquire and document field data, and to verify the data collected is the correct information needed for the application.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to contribute to the strategic planning and long-term goals of the CSA department

Pay: $125,000.00 - $165,000.00 per year
