Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in fire prevention or fire suppression as a firefighter; OR
Military service in any capacity plus two years and six months of experience in fire prevention or fire suppression as a firefighter.
Job Concepts
Function Of Work:
To supervise response to emergency calls for assistance involving aircraft accidents and/or incidents (which may include engagement in fire suppression activity) other accidents or incidents (including vehicular accidents) requiring implementation of disentanglement measures, structural fires, fires aboard small moored marine vessels, location of activated aircraft emergency locator devices, foreign object debris removal, administration of first responder level first aid, and application of hazardous materials technician level skills under a wide variety of possible scenarios.
To supervise performance of airport operational functions in assistance of airport management, including flood protection, mandatory daily airfield inspections, airfield wildlife management and depredation programs, communications with Federal Aviation Administration Air Traffic Control Tower personnel, and maintenance of records pertinent to the foregoing activities.

General from the Airport Manager.
Supervision Exercised:
Direct over Firemen Advanced. Functional over personnel from outside agencies responding to requests for assistance in accordance with procedures outlined in the Airport Emergency Plan and with previously determined Incident Command Protocol.

Orleans Levee District, New Orleans Lakefront Airport, Orleans Parish.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Fireman Advanced by supervisory responsibility; differs from Airport Manager by lack of responsibility for over-all airport operations and subordinate relationship.
Examples of Work
Supervises response of fire apparatus to emergency scenes and directs the operation of portable firefighting equipment.
Supervises response to first aid, basic life support, and entanglement emergencies as necessary within a limited geographical area.
Coordinates medical and other response activities with support agencies as necessary.
Supervises initial response to and assessment of hazardous materials releases within a limited geographical area.
Initiates or directs the initiation of appropriate containment and/or mitigation activities, and coordinates hazardous materials activities with support agencies as necessary.
Supervises use and maintenance of approved firearms and ammunition relative to the airports Wildlife Management and Depredation Policy.
Oversees inspection of and maintenance activity for fire apparatus, portable firefighting equipment, and personal protective equipment.
Supervises daily maintenance activities of the agency fire station.
Plans, conducts, assists and/or attends regular on-job training sessions relative to fire suppression, fire prevention, and rescue activities.
When necessary, arranges for outside special training.
Participates in and/or assigns a rotation order to subordinates relative to dispatch duties for the fire department, ensuring constant monitoring of multiple radio frequencies, multiple alarm enunciator panels and emergency telephone lines, and initiation of appropriate response.
Ensures that multiple business telephone lines are manned and that calls are properly routed.
Assigns airport operational functions (including mandatory inspections of airfield, airfield lighting, foreign object debris removal, and location of activated emergency locator devices) to subordinates, ensuring that all inspections are done in accordance with FAA rules and agency procedures.
Supervises subordinates and maintains daily records relative to the activities of assigned platoon, including activity logs, employee leave, payroll, etc.
Plans and evaluates performance of subordinates as per current Civil Service Rules and Orleans Levee District protocol.
Counsels employees regarding deficiencies, suggesting methods of improvement or enhancement of performance. Recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
Oversees procurement of equipment and supplies necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the department.
Supervises performance of fire prevention activities, including identification of code violation, coordination of extinguisher inspections with a third party contractor, conducting and assisting with fire drills for agency personnel and tenants.
Assists in facilitating public fire education classes.
Ensures proper notification of appropriate individuals relative to emergency situations or conditions, or significant events on or in the vicinity of the airport.
