This position is located at
Lake D'Arbonne State Park in Farmerville, LA.
The minimum rate of pay is $21.27/hour for this position, depending on experience.
POST Certification in Louisiana is required to qualify for this position.
If offered the position, candidate must be able to drive to Baton Rouge to submit a background check.
No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of experience as a park ranger, park manager, or in law enforcement.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by State and Federal laws is granted.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
This position may require the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.
Job Concepts
Function Of Work:
To enforce all applicable laws on a state park, serve as an instructor, coordinate a law enforcement program on a district level, and/or provide interpretive duties.
OR
To serve as an assistant manager in the operation, maintenance and law enforcement activities of a Level 1 or Level 2 recreation area. Level 1 sites are characterized by low use and a limited variety and/or number of developed recreational facilities available such as camping, swimming, boating, hiking, picnicking, etc. Level 2 sites are characterized by moderate to high use and by the variety/number of developed recreational facilities available such as camping, swimming, boating, hiking, picnicking, etc.
Level Of Work:
Advanced.
Supervision Received:
General from a Park Manager or other administrator of the agency served.
Supervision Exercised:
May exercise functional supervision over lower level Park Rangers in the training situation. Project basis over all lower level employees and workers at a Level 1 and 2 recreation areas.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from lower level Park Rangers by the presence of law enforcement coordination functions and training responsibilities, and/or interpretive responsibilities.
Differs from lower level Park Rangers at Level 1 and 2 sites by serving as the assistant manager.
Differs from Park Managers by lack of responsibility for managing a recreation area, preservation area or historic site.
Differs from other law enforcement positions by enforcement of laws applicable to facilities operated by the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism.
Examples of Work
The purpose of this position is to enforce all applicable laws on a state park, serve as instructor on critical law enforcement topics, and assist with the coordination of a law enforcement program as directed by the agency at the district level, and to educate the public on their role in the protection of natural resources, cultural, and historic resources.
40% Law Enforcement
- Protects site natural, cultural, and historical resources through the enforcement of all applicable laws
- Manages visitor loads, multi-use, and visitor conflicts
- Successfully completes all required training such as Annual POST Council Certification and those required by the agency
- Performs at the level of expertise necessary to serve trainer in agency-designated areas of law enforcement
- May be required to research individuals through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) for enforcement purposes
- Conducts investigations of incidents and complaints to include, but not limited to, vehicles, vandalism, accidents, trespassing, and search/rescue operations that occur within the site boundaries
- Testifies in court as necessary
- Works cooperatively with district attorneys, federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in the arrest and prosecution of individuals
- Maintains contact with police communication personnel to coordinate investigation activities, provide mutual assistance during emergency situations and provides Administrative information about Department activities.
- Inspects and patrols site grounds for vandalism, malfunctions or problems
- Assists non-law enforcement personnel in incident reporting
- Sets up and maintains range while re-qualifying and serves as ranger master and safety officer during district training
- Verifies that P.O.S.T. requirements are being met and forwards proper documentation to the Chief Law Enforcement Officer
- Assists in the annual inspects of all weapons issued by the Office of State Parks to verify proper operation and that weapons are maintained to manufacturer’s specifications.
- Works special details/events within the agency in conjunction with federal, state, and local agencies that include inaugural events, search and rescue activities, parking details, specialized enforcement tasks, disaster assistance and working special events at parks such as re-enactments, grand openings, day-in-the-park events, school day events, etc.
20% Administrative Duties
- Completes various reports including incident reports.
- Assists with various administrative duties including facilities inspections.
- Facilitates interpretive and promotional events.
- Participates in events planning meetings.
- Coordinates events and the security aspects of the events.
- Coordinates on-site activities and various aspects of park operations.
- Supervises swimming pool operations and guests safety.
15% Training - Defines And Coordinates Training At The District Level With Direction From L.E.A.C. And/or The Chief Law Enforcement Officer. Must Possess The Expertise To Properly Conduct Training On The Following Topics:
- First Aid/CPR
- Accident Investigation as it Relates to ORM Guidelines
- Hands-On Boat Instruction
- Serves as Field Training Officer
- Safety Training
- Report Writing
Must Also Possess The Expertise Necessary To Instruct In At Least Two (2) Of The Following Areas Of Expertise That Will Be Shared Statewide Among Agency Specialists. Although All Specialists Must Pass, Training Level Expertise Is Limited As Noted:
- Serves as P.O.S.T. Firearms Instructor (Two-Agency Wide)
- Chemical Weapons (Two-Agency Wide)
- Defensive Tactics (Two-Agency Wide)
- Wilderness and Remote First Aid (One Per District)
- Standard Field Sobriety Training (One Per District)
- Search and Rescue
- Radar Operations – If radar is present in the assigned district
15% General Site Duties
- Under the direction of the Park Manager and/or Assistant Manager, may serve as interpretive guide, conduct programs, and perform maintenance.
- Performs work essential to the preservation and protection of the site’s natural, cultural and recreational resources for public enjoyment
- Performs custodial and/or fee collection tasks
10% Guest Assistance
- Provides assistance to overnight guests during their stay as situations dictate
- Provides tourism information, gives local directions to park visitors, and disseminates other information as requested by park visitors
- Cultivates the support and cooperation of the public in the agency’s operations while maintaining a healthy respect for the spirit of the law
